Gradall Forklift Parts - During the time when WWII created a shortage of workers, the famous Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the creation of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted workforce because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction business referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available laborers in order to carry out the delicate work of grading and finishing on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build a machine that will save their business by making the slope grading work less manual, easier and more efficient.
Their first design prototype was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform which was attached on top of a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward which enabled the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Shortly enhancing the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom so as to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom turn 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be equipped with either a bucket or a blade attachment.
Gradall introduced in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their equipment ever since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to provide comparable power and high productivity to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems efficiently handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity jobs.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their digging and lifting ability. These versions were manufactured along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed immense improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was likewise developed together with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators make use of an operator to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the task at hand. This makes the operator's overall task easier and likewise saves fuel simultaneously.
When the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial equipment market that are designed to tackle pavement removal, excavating, demolition and other industrial jobs. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
